The Republic of Uzbekistan is located in Central Asia, surrounded by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. If you would like to visit this country, remember not only to pack your bags and book a flight but also to check the current visa requirements.
The Uzbek Visa may be obtained from the Uzbek diplomatic mission or electronically from home. A short-time entry permit is required from visitors from over 45 countries worldwide. However, all foreign citizens wishing to stay in Uzbekistan for a more extensive period must apply for an appropriate visa type.
Over 80 countries worldwide, including all the European Union member states, are granted visa-free entry to Uzbekistan. Moreover, citizens of additional 7 countries (China, Hong Kong, Macao, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar) are allowed to enter Uzbekistan without a visa for a period of up to 10 days. In this case, the only requirement is a valid passport. However, this applies to traveling for tourism purposes.
The electronic visa, called eVisa, was introduced in Uzbekistan in 2018. This permit is valid for 30 days and allows multiple entries to the country. It can be obtained by filling in a visa application form online. Moreover, it is strictly connected to the traveler's passport - on arrival at the border check, the immigration officers will require the visa (printed or digital form) and the travel document. In case the passport expires before the visa, it renders the entry permit invalid as well.
In order to be granted the entry permit, you must have a sponsor in Uzbekistan. It may be either a company organizing work travels or a tourist agency. A letter from the sponsor should be presented in the process of visa application.
There are many visa categories available for foreign citizens traveling to Uzbekistan. They differ depending on the reason behind the visit.
The Tourist Visa was created for those who wish to enjoy their holidays in Uzbekistan. It allows taking part in cultural events and visiting breathtaking monuments. It may also be issued for travelers wanting to meet with friends and family.
The Study Visa is issued for international students, trainees, and interns wishing to study in Uzbekistan. It is also intended for professors from schools and universities collaborating with the Uzbekistan Ministry of Education.
If you want to be employed in Uzbekistan, you should apply for a Work Visa. This permit can be obtained after providing appropriate documents with the application form, for example, an employment contract concluded for at least 3 months with a company registered in Uzbekistan. Moreover, the future employer must prepare the mandatory license for attraction of foreign employees and the approval for employment.
The Diplomatic Visa is reserved for the holders of diplomatic passports, such as temporary and permanent employees of foreign representatives and international organizations. The permit stays valid as long as the completion of the assigned task abroad should take.
A Transit Visa allows you to stay in Uzbekistan for 3 days in case of traveling to another destination. Citizens of some countries are granted the visa-free permit to transit for 5 days. Before your trip, check the current Transit Visa requirements concerning your country.
The registration process should start with informing your selected sponsor about the intention to travel - they need to inquire about the visa acceptance letter. There are a few documents required while applying for the Uzbekistan entry permit:
When you receive the visa confirmation to your e-mail address, visit the Uzbek Embassy with the relevant documents: a valid passport, two copies of the formal pictures, and two copies of the completed application form.
The moment you arrive in Uzbekistan, you should complete the last mandatory questionnaire required by the Department of Foreign Travel and Exit. The hotel staff will provide you with the registration form at the place of your accommodation. You must complete the form personally if you travel to a private apartment.
You may visit the Uzbekistan Embassy to fill in the application for a visa, but it is recommended to use the online registration method. It is fast, easy, and convenient, taking no more than 15 minutes. The questionnaire consists of several sections:
Submit the completed form and wait for the registration process confirmation. When your application is authorized, you will find your Uzbekistan eVisa at your e-mail address.
The Uzbekistan travel permit stays valid for 3 months (90 days) from the issuing date and allows multiple entries to the country. Each visit cannot be longer than 1 month (30 days). If you would like to extend your period of stay, you need to contact the Uzbek Embassy.
