East Africa Tourist Visa

East Africa Tourist Visa: Basic Information

In recent years, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda have teamed up to create the East Africa Tourist Visa, an electronic travel document that allows you to visit all three countries. This is great news for tourists due to the fact that this region has some of the best tourism opportunities the world has to offer.

e-Visa is available for travellers worldwide. As long as you have a valid passport, you are welcome to apply. The application process can be done online without the need to visit an embassy or undergo visa interviews.

Even your payment can be done online using a debit/credit card or any other method of online payment from the several available.

When you apply with Evisa Express, your approved East Africa e-Visa is sent to your email inbox within 6 business days.

The East Africa e-Visa costs 149 Euro per traveller.

  • e-Visa types

There is only one type of an East Africa e-Visa. It allows travel within and between Kenya, Rwanda. and Uganda for the purposes of tourism. E-Visa has the following parameters:

    • allows travel in Uganda, Rwanda & Kenya
    • can be used for tourism only in Rwanda and Kenya (this includes family visits.) e-Visa can be used in Uganda for both tourism and business activities (signing a contract, attending a conference or a meeting.)
    • is a multiple entry visa
    • is valid for 90 days from the planned date of entry
  • List of eligible countries

Whereas some countries can be quite selective about which nations participate in their program for e-Visas, the East Africa Tourist Visa is available to citizens of every nationality.

The only requirement is that you are able to show a valid passport and a few other supporting documents (for complete details, see "East African Visa - application form" and "Required documents", below.)

Please note that your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months past your intended date of entry. Any application that shows passport validity of less than six months will be denied, and the processing fee refunded.

  • e-Visa Application form

You have to apply at least 3 days in advance.

Please carefully read and comply with the guidelines stated in each step of the application form.

At Evisa Express, our business is to make travel easier with a straightforward application process. Our customer service team is on call 24/7, and the online form can be completed at any time.

When you are ready to apply, go to "Application for East Africa Tourist Visa", found in the left-hand sidebar of this page. Select "tourism" as your purpose of travel, and then click "Apply Online". You'll then be taken to the main application form.

Fill in the application with details about yourself and your trip, including your planned date of entry. Follow all of the instructions you find on the form. You'll be asked to upload some supporting documents, including a copy of the bio-data page of your passport. Travellers who plan to enter through Uganda must provide additional documentation. See "Required documents", below, for more information.

At the end of your application, pay the processing fee using any method of online payment you prefer. The travel visa cost is 149 Euro.

After you click "Submit," a confirmation email will be sent to the address you provided on your form. This email will contain your personalized application number. If you need to contact customer service for any reason, have that number ready so that we may serve you more efficiently.

The processing time may take up to 6 business days, but most applicants get approval sooner. Please be aware that the ultimate decisions about visa processing times and approval rest with the governments.

Your approved e-Visa shall be sent to your email in a PDF format, and shall remain valid for 90 days from the date of entry that you've put on your application. Print out your e-Visa and have it ready to be controled by authorities upon entry.

  • e-Visa validity period

East African Visa will enable your stay for 90 days, starting on the planned date of entry. The EATV allows multiple entries. In other words, during your visa's validity period, you may enter and exit Uganda and Rwanda as often as you need to, and travel freely between the three countries.

Please note that the validity period for e-Visas begins on your planned date of entry (the date you put on your application) and not on the date of issue.

Important! Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your planned date of arrival in order for your application to be approved.

Important! In case any changes are made to the traveller's passport, e-Visa becomes invalid. Whenever you lose your document or change the details on it, you will have to apply for a new e-Visa.

  • Transit visa information

Travellers transiting through Uganda, Rwanda, or Kenya on their way somewhere else do not need a visa if they do not plan on leaving the airport's designated transit zone.

All travellers who plan to leave the transit zone must have transit visas. This visa type must be obtained at the airport; it is not available online. For more information, please contact your airline, as well as the Customs Department at your destination's airport.

  • Requirements on arrival
