eVisa (eTA/eVisitor) for Australia: Basic Information
Citizens of countries exempt from the visa requirement will need an Electronic Tavel Authorization (E-visa) when traveling to Australia.>/p>
All visitors must obtain a valid e-visa in advance to enter Australia.The application must be submitted online, and it costs 49 EUR.
There are a few different types of visas you can travel with. The most popular are eTA and eVisitor. Both of them allow you to travel for tourist and business purposes for a maximum period of 3 months, and they are valid for 1 year from the date of issue. The difference between them is that eVisitor is intended for citizens of European countries, while eTA is intended for the following countries: Brunei - Darussalam, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, and Malaysia.
- Types of eVisa to Australia
There are two types of eVisa for Australia:
Tourist eVisa used for tourism purposes (a holiday, visiting friends and relatives, etc.) Valid for 365 days, starting on date of approval. Good for visits of up to 90 consecutive days.
Business eVisa used for business purposes (taking part in a conference, negotiating a business contract, etc.) Valid for 365 days, starting on date of approval. Good for visits of up to 90 consecutive days.

If your country of citizenship is not listed, it is necessary to apply for a standard embassy visa in order to visit Australia.
- eVisa to Australia - Application Form
To proceed with your application, please use the panel on the left side of this page. Please choose the purpose of your travel (tourism or business.) Then select the nationality that corresponds with your passport. Click “apply online” and fill out your application. You will need your passport details and a valid email address to complete this form. Please make sure that you have entered all of your passport details correctly, as you will not be asked to submit a copy of the passport itself.
Once your application is completed, you will receive confirmation of the submission of the application. Usually, the whole process takes a maximum of 3 days, but very often approval occurs on the same day. It is worthwhile to remember that the entire visa process and the processing time is at the discretion of the Australian Immigration Service.
You will receive an approved e-visa by email. It will be automatically assigned to your passport number, so there is no need to print the document or show it at your point of entry. All you need to do is to carry the valid passport that you used when filling out the application.
- eVisa Australia - Validity period
The eVisa to Australia is a multiple entry eVisa and is valid for 1 year from the date of approval.
You can travel to Australia for a maximum of 3 months at a time, which means you can stay up to 3 months each time you enter Australia. Your stay cannot be extended from within the country. If you wish to return, you must leave Australia for a minimum of 3 days. After that, you are allowed to return to Australia for another 3 months (if those 3 months fall within your e-visa’s validity period).
Remember that if your passport is valid for less than a year, your e-visa will only stay valid until your passport expires. In the event of any changes or the expiry of the passport, a new application must be submitted.
- eVisa Australia - Transit Information
An e-visa is also required for transit through Australia. If you are a passport holder from one of the countries that are e-visa eligible, you can apply online. If your nationality is not eligible for an e-visa, you are oblidged to go to an embassy to get a traditional visa.
- Requirements on Arrival
All you need in order to enter Australia is an approved e-visa and a valid passport issued by an e-visa eligible country. The e-visa number is automatically and electronically assigned to the passport number, so you do not need to have your e-visa printed. Nevertheless, you are required to carry a valid passport (with your e-visa assigned) and be able to show it at the airport.

All you need in order to apply for an e-visa is your valid passport. No additional documents are needed.
Please keep in mind that every person holding a passport of a country enabling them to apply for an e-visa must submit an application. Note also that all children, regardless of age, will need an approved e-visa to travel to Australia.
