eVisa to Kenya: Basic Information

An electronic visa is a document that allows you to enter Kenya for tourist, business or transit purposes. Obtaining an e-visa electronically is possible for citizens of visa-exempt countries only. Travelers eligible for e-visa need to submit an online application to enter Kenya.

An e-visa to Kenya costs 99 Euro, and the processing application time usually takes 3 business days.

  • Types of eVisa

    There are three types of eVisa to Kenya:

    Tourist eVisa – a single entry visa, used for tourist purposes (holidays, visiting friends or relatives, etc.). It is valid for 90 days from the date of approval.

    Business eVisa – a single entry visa for business purposes (participation in a conference, negotiating a business contract, etc.). It allows a 90-day stay and it is valid for 90 days from the date of issue of the document.

    Transit eVisa – allows transit through Kenya to the target destination. The maximum stay in Kenya is 72 hours.

  • eVisa to Kenya Application Form

    To complete your application for an electronic visa to Kenya, you will be required to provide personal data and travel information, such as your planned date of arrival in Kenya, the date of leaving the country and the address of accommodation in Kenya. When it comes to a tourist destination, you are required to attach a copy of the passport and photo of the applicant. In case of a business e-visa, an additional document confirming the business nature of the trip should be attached to the application – for instance, an invitation letter issued by a Kenyan company. In the case of transit entry, it is necessary to send an air ticket confirming the onward journey to the destination country.

    After completing all the fields required and attaching the relevant documents, all you have to do is submit the application. The confirmation will be sent to the email address that you provided. The total processing time for an electronic visa application depends on the operation of the immigration office in Kenya but usually, it takes up to 3 days. The result of your e-visa process will be sent to you electronically. It should be printed and carried along with the passport. You will be required to show this document when entering Kenya.

  • eVisa Validity Period

    The validity of an electronic visa depends on the type chosen:

    Tourist and business eVisa - valid for 90 days from the date of issue of the document. It allows one-time entry with a maximum stay of up to 90 days. This means that you will have to leave the country on the last day of your e-visa validity.

    Transit eVisa - valid for 72 hours from the planned date of entry into Kenya. At the same time, the maximum duration of stay in Kenya is also 72 hours.

  • eVisa Transit Information

    As mentioned above, in the case of transit through Kenya, you have to apply for an e-visa. This e-visa is issued specifically for transit travel.

    The possibility of applying for an e-visa applies only to citizens of visa-free travel countries. The list of these countries is available here. If the country is not listed , the citizen has to go to the embassy to obtain a regular visa.

  • Requirements on Arrival

    You must have a valid passport and a printed e-visa to enter Kenya. The document can be printed in black and white. Your e-visa and passport will be verified by customs officials on arrival in Kenya.

Important Information

  • An e-visa is not required for persons under 17 years of age. A valid passport is mandatory.
  • The passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Kenya.
  • Extension of stay is possible on arrival in Kenya however there will be a charge for an additional days.
  • For e-visa holders, undertaking commercial activities is not allowed; An e-visa is only valid for business or tourist trips.
  • It is possible to entercontry Kenya through another port than the one indicated but still it has to be on the list accepting electronic visas.
  • As e-visa is electronically assigned to the passport so if the document expires or is lost, the e-visa will be not valid correspondingly. If your passport has expired and you get a new document, you are required to apply for a new e-visa.
