Kenya eVisa

eVisa Kenya: Basic Information

Most foreign travelers need some sort of visa to Kenya, but what about an eVisa? Despite the popularity of this digital travel permission, the concept is still new to some travelers. An eVisa is an electronic travel visa issued by the government of Kenya that can be used for tourism, business, or transit. Citizens from visa-exempt countries are able to obtain their Kenya eVisa online by filling out a visa application form on our website.

An e-Visa to Kenya costs 99 euro, while the price for an East Africa Visa is 149 Euro. The processing application time usually takes 3 days.

  • Types of eVisa

The Republic of Kenya offers three different types of eVisa: the Tourist eVisa, the Business eVisa, and the Transit eVisa. Our services offer applications for all three types. In this section, we'll give the most important information about each type, such as: the purpose of each visa, validity periods, and maximum lengths of each visit.

Please note that each of the three visa types is a single entry visa. That means you can only enter and exit Kenya once while using your eVisa. Once you leave the country, you cannot use the same eVisa to get back in - you will have to apply for a new one.

Tourist eVisa – Kenya's Tourist eVisa is designed for tourism. This includes travel related to sightseeing, as well as visiting relatives or friends. It remains valid for 90 days from the approval date, and you may stay up to 90 days in a row.

Business eVisa – Kenya's Business eVisa is for business travelers. Holders of this type of visa are traveling to Kenya to do things like negotiate a business contract, conduct interviews, or participate in a conference. Like the Tourist eVisa, it remains valid for 90 days from the approval date, and your visit may be up to 90 days in a row.

Transit eVisa – Kenya's Transit eVisa  allows travelers to transit through the Republic of Kenya on their way to their target destination. The visa is valid for 72 hours from your planned date of entry into Kenya. That means from the time you enter Kenya to the time your eVisa expires, you have 72 hours to board your onward flight. You must exit Kenya on or before the final hour of your eVisa validity period. Like the other two eVisas, the Transit visa is a single entry visa.

East Africa Visa – is for tourists who want to enter Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. The visa allows you to enter Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda for tourist purposes. The visa is valid for 90 days.

So you're traveling to the Republic of Kenya for tourism, business, East Africa or traisit, and you've found your country of citizenship on the "List of eligible countries," above. Now it's time to apply for your eVisa online

When you apply with Evisa Express, we help you through every step, from understanding the requirements, preparing your documentation, and submitting your application.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have all your documentation with you. You'll need your date of entry and exit to and from Kenya, as well as the addresses you'll be staying at. You'll also need some supporting documents like your passport and a recent photo. For a complete list of supporting documents, see "Required documents," below.

Once you're ready to start your application, find the box titled "Apply for Kenya Visa Online" in the left-hand sidebar of this page. Select your purpose for travel from the dropdown list. Then click "Apply Online." That will bring you to the visa application.

During the online application, applicants will be asked to provide information about their travel plans, as well as identifying information like their valid passport number.  Applicants will also need to upload the supporting documents listed in "Required documents," below.

  • Submitting and processing

Once your application is finished, you'll be able to pay the visa fee (which contains the processing fee) through our secure online system. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard and Visa card. We also accept other secure methods of payment. Payments leads to a final screen where you hit "submit" and pass your application on to the Evisa Express team for inspection. At this time, a confirmation email containing your unique application number will be sent to the address you provided on the application form.

Processing time for Kenya visas can take up to 3 days. The total time to approval depends on the authority of the  government of Kenya. Visas that are granted approval are immediately sent to recipients in PDF form via email.

It's important that you print out your Kenya eVisa and carry it with you when you enter the country. This will be your most important travel document, along with your valid passport. You will be required to show your travel visa to immigration authorities while entering and exiting Kenya.

  • eVisa validity period

According to Kenyan visa policy requirements, how long your Kenya eVisa stays valid depends on whether you have a tourist visa, a business visa, or a transit visa.

The Tourist and Business eVisa both stay valid for 90 days after they are issued. Each of these eVisas is a single entry visa that allows you one-time entry. The maximum amount of time that you can stay in Kenya is 90 days, and you must leave by the last day of the validity period.

The Transit eVisa - stays valid for 72 hours from your planned date of entry into the Republic of Kenya, and the maximum visit length is the same as the validity period. That means you must board your onward flight within 72 hours of entering Kenya. The Transit eVisa is single entry.

The East Africa Visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue of the document. The visa allows multi-entry within Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda and expires automatically if a traveler leaves the three countries.

  • eVisa transit information

What if you are traveling to Kenya not to stay, but to get a connecting flight, boat, bus, or train to somewhere else? This is called transiting, and, just like with other reasons for visiting, it also needs a visa.

If you see your citizenship on the "List of eligible countries," above, then you need a Kenya eVisa to transit through Kenya. Passport holders from eligible countries can quickly obtain a transit visa through our services by filling out one of our visa applications and receiving an approved eVisa by email. If you do not see your citizenship above, however, it is recommended that you contact an Embassy of the Republic of Kenya for more information on how to get the correct Kenya visa.

According to requirements for entry into the Republic of Kenya, you must be carrying the following documents when you travel into the country:

    - Your valid passport.

    - Your valid Kenya eVisa. Simply print out the PDF you received via email. Each applicant must be carrying his or her own eVisa, which must still be within the validity period of 90 days. Print-outs have to be in color. Without this travel document, you will not be permitted to enter Kenya.

When you apply online through Evisa Express, we check every applicant's details (eligibility, passport validity, point of entry, etc.) before submitting the form to the Kenyan government.
