- Five things you cannot miss while you stay in Cambodia
1. The most beautiful sunset you will ever get to see
Cambodia is being recognized for various all over the world. While the country has plenty of national landmarks, there is one particular that deserves more attention than others: Angkor Wat. This stunning monument was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II, initially as a Hindu temple. It is the most massive object of worship in the world. The square moat surrounds it, and the entire area exceeds 163 ha. Walls of the Angkor Wat are covered from the bottom to the top with low reliefs presenting the mores and customs of the ancient Khmer people. There are plenty of their casual habits that have been captured, and the tour guides will surely, gladly share their knowledge. But all of the mentioned is not the reason why 2 million people visit Angkor Wat annually. The majority of tourists tend to wake up in the middle of the night to make sure they will be able to observe the breathtaking sunrise. It is without a shadow of doubt one of the most remarkable views in the world. The landscape of sun rising above the ancient walls and lotus-flower-shaped towers is the reason why people travel to Cambodia in the first place.
Nerby the Angkor Wat, there are other less-known, equally beautiful constructions such as Ta Kav Gate. While you are in the area, it is a great idea to purchase a guided tour or rent a scooter and explore them all by yourself.
2. While you are in Siem Reap, see the most moving play staged in Cambodia
Siem Reap is probably the most touristic cities in the entire country. It's remarkably safe, has plenty of food stalls and entertainment facilities spread across its territory. Amongst the most relevant events taking place each day in the city of Siem Reap is the play called "Smile of Angkor." The show portrays the history of the Angkor civilization and the way they have built the largest religious monument on earth. Plenty of their customs and traditions have been excellently captured in the play script. You will also get to admire the skills of the dancers performing on the stage who spent the majority of their life practicing every move they make on stage.
3. Learn how to make spring rolls from scratch
Cambodian cuisine consists of delicious and fresh local ingredients. There are plenty of local restaurants that will offer you a feast for the entire family for less than half of the cost that you would expect. While ordering, you will promptly realize that the majority of prices are written down in the American currency. For travelers from the United States, this means that they don't need to exchange their cash while traveling to Cambodia. While you arrive in this country, try spending as much time with the locals as possible. Since there is no better way than learning about other cultures than through food, maybe try learning one or two local recipes.
4. Try authentic Asian delicacies
While traveling to Asia, you already expect to experience utterly different cuisine then the one you are used to seeing in your hometown. There are plenty of restaurants that offer less adventurous treats such as Khmer beef salad marinated in lime, fish Amok, or Nom Banh Chok. There is a group of tourists who seek more adventurous flavors in mind. For those who consider themselves courageous, it is recommended to try Red Tree Ants with Beef, fried crickets, and even smoked tarantulas. Those local delicacies can only be found in Cambodia and surely will be unforgettable.
5. Koh Rong Island
Koh Rong Island is believed to one of the most remarkable places in the entire country. Surprisingly not many people know about it, which will allow you to enjoy the beautiful, sandy beaches such as Royal Beach, Sok San Beach, Koh Toch Beach all by yourself, and your group of friends. This place is also home to transparently clear water and unpolluted air. The tranquil environment will be a significant change after visiting country capital, all the monuments, and wandering for hours to explore each landmark. Wherever you will look, you are going to see amiable locals, beautiful sights at every corner.
- The most important tip for those planning their trip to Cambodia
The climate and weather conditions in Cambodia don't divide the year into four traditional seasons. It doesn't mean that it doesn't change throughout the year. While you are planning your trip to Cambodia, you have to keep in mind that only two kinds of weather can be distinguished. At the beginning of May, the rain season begins. It ends after six months of constant fall in November. If you are not accustomed to such weather conditions, it would be wiser to choose to travel to Cambodia during the other half of the year.
- What kind of visa is required to enter Cambodia?
With the number of tourists entering the country annually, the previous system of applying for a regular visa at the closest Embassy or consulate needed to be replaced. Otherwise, each desk would be overflown with the visa applications. The electronic travel authorization system allows visitors from the countries included in the visa-exempt to apply online for a Cambodian visa. There is no need for you to provide the original documents to the government anymore. You will only be requested to attach a copy of the biodata page from your passport and a photograph of an applicant. To complete your application for a Cambodian eVisa, you will only need a couple of minutes. The processing time usually doesn't exceed three working days; however, it's dependable on the pace with which the government works.
