eVisa to Myanmar / Burma: Basic Information

Myanmar has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization system in September 2014. Since then it is possible to obtain a visa for a tourist or business purposes without leaving your home. Access to the electronic visa application is granted to citizens of visa-free countries and the whole process can be carried out online. This means that there is no need to go to the embassy to enter Myanmar.

The process of obtaining an eVisa takes a maximum of three days and the depends of the type of travel.

  • Types of eVisa

    There are two types of eVisa to Myanmar / Burma:

    Tourist eVisa – issued for tourist purposes such as vacation, visiting friends or relatives, etc.

    Business eVisa – issued for business purposes such as participation in conferences or business meetings, negotiating commercial contracts, etc.

    If your country of citizenship is not listed, it is necessary to apply for a standard embassy visa in order to visit Myanmar / Burma.

    Citizens of the following countries are exempt from visa requirements for tourist visits of up to 14 days if entering and departing from Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw International Airports:

    Citizens of the following countries do not require a visa for tourist visits of up to 30 days and you can enter and depart from all International Checkpoints:

    Prospective travelers to Myanmar / Burma who wish to enter by any point not listed above, including all sea ports, must apply for a standard embassy visa.

  • eVisa to Myanmar / Burma Application Form

    To obtain an electronic visa for Myanmar, you have to complete an online form. It is required to provide passport details and travel information to Myanmar, such as the planned date of arrival and place of stay. In addition, you are required to attach a photo to the application. A scanned copy of the passport is not required, so make sure all the details you provided are correct.

    After completing the application, you will receive a message confirming the submission of the application, tips on how to proceed and the estimated time needed to process the application. You will receive a decision on your visa application within 3 business days.

    Please keep in mind that the eVisa process also depends on the operation and decision of the Immigration Office in Myanmar.

    Finally, all you have to do is to print the document and show it on arrival in Myanmar. To complete the application, please use the panel on the left. Choose the type of trip: single or multiple entries (30 or 90 days), and enter your citizenship). Click "Apply online" and fill out the form.

  • eVisa Validity Period

    Both types of electronic visas allow single entry to Myanmar. A visa issued for tourist purposes authorizes a 28-day stay and is valid for 3 months from the moment of issuing the document. This means that even on the last day of its validity, entry to Myanmar is possible. The business visa allows you to stay for a maximum of 70 days and remains valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

    To be able to apply for an eVisa online, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Myanmar

  • eVisa Transit Information

    Citizens of all countries except Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are required to apply for a visa to travel through Bahrain. If you have a passport issued by the office of an eligible country, apply for an eVisa online.

    If your citizenship is not eligible for an eVisa, you have to go to the embassy to obtain a regular visa.

  • Requirements on Arrival

    Citizens of visa-free countries need a valid passport and a printed electronic visa. Upon arrival in Myanmar these both documents have to presented to the customs officials for verification.

Important information

  • eVisas are only accepted at selected airports and border crossing points.
  • In the event of a passport change or its expiry, it is necessary to apply for a new eVisa. The eVisa is assigned directly to the passport number, therefore it is not possible to use the document with another or new passport.
  • You are not allowed to work on the eVisa basis. To get employed a different type of visa and a visit to the embassy is required.
