Visa requirements for Kuwaiti citizens are the applicable to citizens of Kuwait rules and regulations that determine which documents do travelers need to travel abroad.

Each country stipulates its own rules and regulations stating which foreign countries need to apply for a regular visa, which can enter with an eVisa or a visa obtained on arrival, and which can enter on a visa-free basis.

Kuwaiti passport holders can visit 32 countries with an eVisa obtained online a few days before departure, 41 countries with a visa obtained on arrival, 47 countries without any type of visa, and have to apply for a regular Embassy-issued visa when visiting 90 countries.

eVisas, VoAs, and visa-free entry are usually granted for short-term stays abroad (usually up to 90 days) and for all leisure, business, and transit-related trips. Whereas, Embassy-issued visas, although more difficult to obtain, can sometimes be issued for long-term stays as well.

Electronic visa

An electronic visa or an eVisa is a type of visa or travel authorization document issued by foreign governments after travelers complete an online application process. The approved electronic visa is then delivered to each applicant via email in PDF form and sometimes links directly to the traveler’s passport number.

List of countries offering eVisas for Kuwaiti citizens

32 countries offer citizens of Kuwait the possibility to get their visas online in form of eVisas. All Kuwaiti passport holders must do to get an eVisa to one of the above-listed countries is follow a few simple steps:

  1. Apply Online – choose your preferred eVisa type and complete the online application form with the required data.
  2. Cover the eVisa issuing fee – use any method of online payment to cover the eVisa issuing fee.
  3. Wait for the confirmation email – submitting the online form and covering the issuing fee results in a confirmation email being delivered to each traveler via email.

The approved eVisa will also be delivered to each traveler via email in PDF form, which can easily be downloaded and printed out before departure.

The most common processing time for electronic visas is 72 hours. The approved document may come in different forms depending on the selected eVisa type - single-entry, multiple-entry travel authorizations issued for different lengths of stay.

eVisas are most often issued for a stay of either 30, 60, or 90 days and can be used for leisure, business, and transit purposes, including going on vacation, making friends and family visits, attending business events, conferences, seminars, or simply taking a layover while transiting.

Visa on Arrival

A Visa on Arrival is a short-term travel authorization document that can be obtained upon arrival in the selected country. Travelers who wish to get a VoA must complete the visa application procedures after arrival at the nearest border control point.

Kuwaiti citizens wishing to obtain a VoA to any of the above-listed countries should check the required documents and prepare them before departure. With the complete paperwork on hand complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the closest border control point upon arrival
  2. Ask for a Visa on Arrival application form
  3. Complete the form with the required data and double-check if everything is correct
  4. Submit the form along with the required supporting documents to the border control point officials
  5. Cover the VoA issuing fee (if required)
  6. Wait for approval

90 countries require Kuwaiti passport holders to obtain an Embassy-issued visa before their departure.

To get an Embassy-issued visa when traveling from Kuwait, travelers should first find the Embassy or Consulate of the country they plan on visiting in Kuwait and contact the Embassy officials to get a detailed list of the required documents.

Next, travelers should collect the required documents and complete the appropriate application form for the specific Embassy visa type they have selected.

With the complete paperwork on hand, Kuwaiti citizens should submit their application at the appropriate Embassy and complete the following steps, which may include covering the Embassy-visa issuing fee, going through a visa interview, providing further supporting documents, and more.

The processing of the Embassy visa application may take even up to a few weeks, depending on the selected destination. That is why applications should be submitted well ahead of the planned departure to receive the needed travel authorization document on time.

Visa-free countries

47 countries grant Kuwaiti citizens a visa-free entry allowing them to travel from Kuwait to their territory without any visa on hand. This type of entry is the most effortless way to travel abroad since no travel authorization document needs to be handled before departure or upon arrival.

Traveling under visa-free basis is as simple as international travels can get. All that Kuwaiti passport holders must do to visit any of the above-listed countries is plan their itinerary and pack their bags.

Some countries may require citizens of Kuwait to present some supporting documents when crossing the border. Such documents may include proof of hotel bookings, proof of having sufficient funds for the stay, their return ticket, and more.

However, what’s usually needed is simply a valid passport or in some cases only ID from Kuwait.

Please note! Kuwait citizens, as Kuwait is part of the GCC, can enter other GCC states with simply a valid ID card since the member states have the Freedom of Movement Agreement.
