Visa requirements for Turkish citizens are the current regulations applicable upon international travels from Turkey. Set regulations are pre-established by foreign countries and decide whether or not, Turkish citizens will need a visa to enter.

Currently, there are 76 countries that require arriving Turkish citizens to have a valid Embassy-issued visa while 68 countries welcome Turkish passport holders visa-free.

There are also 28 countries that allow Turkish citizens to enter on the basis of a valid eVisa and 37 that make it possible to obtain a Visa on Arrival.

eVisas, Visas on Arrival, as well as a visa-free entry usually allows citizens of Turkey to stay abroad for a short period of time and engage in leisure, business, or transit-related activities.

Embassy visas on the other hand may sometimes be issued for long-term stays as well, but getting an Embassy visa (even for a short-term stay) is considered to be difficult. Such process requires making in-person visits to the Embassy, as well as preparing numerous supporting documents.

The easiest way to travel internationally is to visa-free countries and to those offering eVisas since these documents are easily obtainable online.

VoAs may be considered easy to get but often require travelers to wait in long lines upon arrival and comes with uncertainty of whether or not you’ll receive your travel document.

Electronic visa

An electronic visa is an alternative to traditional Embassy-issued visa. eVisas are travel authorization documents that can be easily obtained online following a quick application process. The approved document reaches each applicant via email, usually within 72 hours.

28 countries offer eVisas for Turkish citizens to travel with. Before visiting any of the above-listed destinations, citizens of Turkey must apply for their visas online.

What’s usually needed to apply is simply a valid passport, an active email address, and internet connection. Completing the form with the required data takes minutes while the processing of a submitted eVisa application usually takes up to 72 hours.

The approved document will be delivered to each applicant via email and allows its holder to travel abroad for a short period of time, usually 30, 60, or 90 days for leisure, business, and transit-related reasons.

This includes going on vacation, making friends and family visits, taking a business trip, attending events and conferences, and taking a layover while reaching another final destination.

Visa on Arrival

A Visa on Arrival is a short-term visa that can be obtained after completing an application process upon arrival at the selected destination.

37 countries make it possible for citizens of Turkey to apply for their visas upon arrival. Travelers who wish to use this option for their travels should prepare for the application process before departure.

The supporting documents may include travelers’ return tickets, proof of having sufficient funds for the stay abroad, hotel bookings.

To actually start the process of applying, Turkish passport holders should go to the nearest border control checkpoint upon arrival and ask for a Visa on Arrival application form. The form must then be completed with the required information and then submitted to the border officials.

Some countries may require an issuing fee to be covered (sometimes in cash using the local currency) and additional supporting documents to be presented.

Approved VoA serves perfectly for short-term stays abroad relating to leisure, business, and transit.

Embassy visa

An Embassy visa is a traditional type of visa that can be obtained upon completing an application process at an Embassy or a Consulate. Embassy visas come in different types, some even being issued for long-term stays, even those relating to working, studying, and even living abroad.

The application process may differ depending on a few factors, including the selected Embassy visa type, the applicant’s nationality, and other. However, the whole process has several common elements, including:

  • Preparing the required documents
  • Completing the application form
  • Submitting the complete paperwork at an Embassy
  • Covering the regular visa issuing fee
  • Waiting for approval

68 countries allow citizens of Turkey to enter their territory on visa-free basis. This makes for the most effortless way of traveling internationally since no visa needs to be handled prior to the planned trip.

What’s usually needed to travel to a visa-free country is simply a valid passport or sometimes even just a valid ID of the Turkish traveler.

Some countries may require additional supporting documents to be provided, and these may include traveler’s hotel bookings, a copy of the return ticket, or proof of having sufficient funds for the stay abroad.

Still, the process is very easy compared to different ways of traveling. Visa-free allows Turkish passport holders to stay abroad for a short period of time for leisure, business, or transit.
