Visa-free travel enables visiting more places and meeting interesting people

No matter what, traveling is always an enjoyable experience. Visa-free travel makes it even better, as Norwegians are able to visit more destinations - not only main tourist attractions but also exotic locations and hidden gems.

You're also bound to meet interesting people from all over the world when you're exploring new places. Norwegian passport holders are able to share their emotions with tourists like them and get to know more inside information from the local people.

How to get a Norwegian passport

A person has to be a Norwegian citizen in order to be granted a Norwegian passport.

Before applying for a passport, it is mandatory to have a personal identity number issued by the Norwegian Tax Administration.

Those living in Norway must submit their application for a Norwegian passport to the police, while people abroad must attend the nearest Norwegian embassy or consulate.

A foreigner can apply for Norwegian citizenship by undertaking some immigration procedures if they have lived in Norway continuously for at least seven years. If they are married to a Norwegian citizen, they can apply earlier - after three continuous years.

An applicant must speak Norwegian and have a valid Permanent Residence Permit.

The benefits of traveling visa-free

There are many benefits of traveling visa-free:

  • it can save Norwegian passport holders a lot of time and money: applying for a visa can be a lengthy and expensive process, so with visa-free access, you kill two birds with one stone;
  • if you are planning to travel to several countries, the visa application process can quickly become overwhelming; traveling visa-free eliminates the need to go through this hassle for each country a person plans to visit;
  • it makes it easier to change plans spontaneously: for example, if Norwegians find themselves wanting to stay in a country longer than they had originally planned, they won't have to deal with applying for an extension.
