India Resumes e-Visa Services for Canadian Citizens
India resumed the services of e-Visa for nationals of Canada on Wednesday (22nd November 2023). This decision was preceded by a 2-month suspension of visa facilities for Canadian citizens following the controversy caused by the remarks of PM Trudeau on Indian agents and their responsibility for the death of the Khalistan Tiger Force chief on June 18.
India stopped offering visa services at all Indian missions present in Canada on September 21. It was due to the alleged danger to the safety of Indian officials who used to be targeted by nationals of Canada, spreading the remarks made by Mr. Trudeau.
As a result, India decided to introduce a total ban on providing visa services to citizens of Canada around the world. Canadians could not obtain a visa for India even if they applied through an Indian mission in a third country. It is said that the situation in Canada has 'relatively improved' for the Indian diplomats, and they can perform everyday duties.
All visa services have now been resumed, including the issuance of tourist visas. Last month, the country restored business and medical visa services.
