Visa requirements for Azerbaijani citizens are the pre-established by the foreign countries' governments rules and conditions applicable upon arrival of citizens of Azerbaijan.

The current entry regulations are set by each country individually and may change over time. Some destinations still require Azerbaijani passport holders to present a valid Embassy visa upon crossing the border, other welcome them with a Visa on Arrival system; some make it possible to apply for an eVisa online, while a few other offer a visa-free entrance.

The Azerbaijani passport-holders do not have the most significant international travel liberty. Azerbaijan has visa-free access to over 30 countries, 29 more Visa on Arrival, and 25 eVisa options available.

Unfortunately, still over a hundred destinations allow Azerbaijani citizens to enter only upon presenting a valid Embassy visa upon arrival.

The easiest visa option to get are eVisas since the whole process can be completed online. On the other hand, Visas on Arrival seem easy to obtain but also come with long waiting lines and uncertainty. The most difficult visa to get is a traditional one that requires multiple visits to Embassy.

Further information on each visa type, specific visa requirements, and lists of countries are available below.

Electronic visa

An eVisa is an online visa issued for Azerbaijani citizens. The visa application process typically takes just a few minutes, and the visa is delivered electronically to each applicant via email.

Currently, 25 countries make it possible for Azerbaijan citizens to apply for an eVisa online a few days prior to their arrival, which makes visiting these destinations effortless!

eVisas are issued for short-term visits abroad, usually allowing applicants to choose among the following three main options: a 30-day, a 60-day, or a 90-day stay. Each country sets its own maximum stay length for eVisa holders.

The short stays with eVisas can relate only to tourism, business, or transit. This means that citizens of Azerbaijan can explore foreign countries, try the available tourist attractions, go on a relaxing getaway, attend business meetings and seminars, as well as taking a layover while transiting.

Visa on Arrival

It's crucial to double-check the provided data to avoid making mistakes since any errors can lead to the application being rejected.

The completed form should then be submitted at the entry border checkpoint. Some countries do require a visa issuing fee to be covered, while other may need additional supporting documents from applicants. The additional documents should be prepared prior to arrival; thus, it's best to check what's required at least a few weeks ahead of the planned trip.

VoAs are issued for short-term stays relating to leisure, professional, or transit reasons, allowing its holders to:

  • go on vacation
  • go on a business trip
  • take a stop-over while reaching another destination

It's also worth noting that many VoA countries also offer an eVisa option available for Azerbaijani citizens to use. Countries like Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and other destinations make it easier to travel abroad from Azerbaijan using the eVisa system.

It's far more convenient to apply for an eVisa online since the whole process takes place online and allows one to avoid the long waiting lines upon arrival. eVisa helps Azerbaijani citizens to travel prepared.

Embassy visa

An Embassy visa is a visa obtained in advance of entering another country by visiting an Embassy. Azerbaijani citizens typically take this visa when they are scheduled to stay in the foreign country for an extended period of time (more than 3 months). However, it is impossible to enter the visa-requiring country with any other visa, including eVisa or VoA.

115 countries require Azerbaijani passport holders to have an Embassy-issued visa upon arrival. Visiting any of the above-listed destinations means handling a regular visa at least a few weeks before arrival.

Getting a regular visa is a complex process that may seem overwhelming but is, unfortunately, necessary to go through when visiting over a hundred destinations from Azerbaijan.

The process may differ from country to country but usually requires applicants to gather every required supporting document (that will validate the purpose of the planned trip), fill the application form, and submit the complete paperwork at an Embassy.

The application form can be accessed by visiting the official government website of the selected country to be visited.

Embassy visas are then processed (if any additional steps, including a visa interview, are not required), and the processing time may take up to a few weeks. Thus, it's essential to submit one's application well ahead of time (at least a few weeks before the planned trip) and check the specific processing times and requirements before booking one's stay abroad.

Visa-free countries

33 countries welcome citizens of Azerbaijan visa-free, eliminating the need to handle any type of visa prior to the planned trip.

Visa-free travel is the most accessible and convenient form of travel. That is because it eliminated the need to handle a visa, which can be both confusing and complicated.

Azerbaijani citizens traveling to visa-free countries should have their valid passports ready upon arrival and any supporting documents (if required by the selected country).

Once granted entry to a visa-free country, Azerbaijani passport holders can stay in the chosen destination for a short amount of time (usually up to 90 days) and engage in any tourism, business, or transit-related reasons.

This makes visa-free travel perfect for a short-term vacation abroad, visiting family and friends, transiting, and even making business trips!
