Kyrgyzstan Entry Requirements

Kyrgyzstan Entry Requirements define all the rules that must be met in order to enter the country hassle-free. These requirements also specify the list of documents necessary to prepare prior to the planned trip.

One of the most essential documents that one must hold to travel to Kyrgyzstan is a valid passport. It should not expire for at least 180 days from the intended arrival date. Remember to check with your travel provider whether your passport, as well as other necessary travel documents, meet their particular requirements.

Apart from a valid passport, you may also need to obtain a visa. The Kyrgyzstan visa policy determines the visa requirements. Depending on your nationality, traveling purpose, or duration of stay, different types of visas may be required to enter Kyrgyzstan.

Foreigners who wish to visit Kyrgyzstan for a short-term stay can apply for an electronic visa online. The Kyrgyzstan e-Visa is available in 3 different types: tourist, mountain tourist, and transit visa. Each type differs in terms of the validity period, permitted duration of stay, and the purpose of usage. There are over 130 different countries currently eligible for Kyrgyzstan online visa application.

Moreover, travelers from certain countries can apply for a visa on arrival in Kyrgyzstan. This option is most convenient for last-minute travelers, while others should rather handle all visa formalities before their trip. It will help them save plenty of time spent in long lines at the border.

Nationals of some countries who are not eligible for online or on-arrival visas will need to obtain a regular visa from the nearest Kyrgyz diplomatic mission. Additionally, some visas, and permits, including work permits, are only available at an embassy or consulate.

Those who plan to live in Kyrgyzstan can replace their visas with residence permits after arrival in the country.

Due to the recent Kyrgyz-Tajik conflict and the tense situation between these two countries, all travelers are advised to avoid traveling to the Batkeny region and the Kyrgyz-Tajik border areas. The Kyrgyz-Tajik land and air borders remain closed until further notice.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Kyrgyzstan followed other countries' decisions to introduce some additional restrictions aimed at minimizing the spread of the coronavirus. Nevertheless, all the covid-related requirements have already been scrapped. Incoming travelers no longer need to submit either a negative coronavirus test or vaccination certificate.

Please remember that all the coronavirus restrictions may change at short notice. Do always remember to check the up-to-date travel advice before any international travel.
