Visa Requirements for Taiwanese Citizens
Visa requirements for Taiwanese citizens are the set conditions to meet upon traveling abroad. These terms determine whether or not Taiwanese passport holders need to obtain a visa upon visit a selected foreign country or not.
As of now, Taiwanese citizens can easily visit more than a hundred countries without a visa or by simply obtaining a Visa on Arrival. Other countries require Twainese passport holders to present a valid Embassy visa or an electronic visa upon their arrival.
This gives the Taiwan passport quite significant power in terms of international travel, ranking it at 32nd place in the overall worldwide travel liberty. Generally speaking, Taiwan citizens can stay in foreign countries for a pretty extensive time. The length of the permitted stay varies anywhere between 14 to even 180 days.
As was already briefly mentioned, Taiwan citizens are eligible for Embassy visas, Visas on Arrival, electronic visas, and visa-free entrance.
The main difference between the four travel permits types is the way they can be obtained. Embassy visas are regular travel permits that are obtainable at an Embassy, VoAs are applied for after arriving at any border checkpoint, eVisas can be easily obtained online, and visa-free entrance does not require travelers to have a visa upon arrival.
VoAs, eVisas, and visa-free entrance all usually allow Taiwanese citizens to travel for leisure, recreational, professional, or transit-related reasons. These types of visas are issued for short-term trips of one, two, three, or six months.
On the other hand, Embassy visas serve for both short and long-term trips, even those related to working, studying, or living abroad for a more extended period of time. However, this type of document is much more difficult to obtain and is connected with a long processing time and numerous required supporting documents.

To get a Visa on Arrival, all you have to do is go to a border control point and ask the customs officials for a VoA application form. Next, carefully fill the form out by providing your personal and travel-related details. Attach the required supporting documents (if any are needed) and submit your application. Lastly, cover the fees and wait for the approval.
Please note! Many countries offering VoAs also have an eVisa option available for all Taiwanese passport holders. Before booking your flight, make sure to check if the destination you're visiting is offering an eVisa. Since electronic visas are much easier to obtain and eliminate the need to wait in long lines at the airport and the stress connected with handling a visa last minute.
If an eVisa is not available, make sure to check what are the Visa on Arrival requirements to meet before the planned departure date. A common misconception is that just because this is a visa obtainable on arrival, you don't have to validate the reason for the planned trip in any way. However, some countries do require foreign travelers to provide some documents supporting their visit. Thus, check what you need to prepare before visiting!
Embassy visa
An Embassy visa is a regular travel permit that is obtainable only upon visiting an official institution that is representing the country you want to travel to. This visa type usually comes in the form of a stamp in the applicant's passport. Moreover, it can be issued for both short and long-term visits, even those related to working abroad. This makes the application process a bit more complicated.

Taiwanese citizens still need a visa obtained at an Embassy upon visiting over 60 different countries. Should you want to visit any of the above-listed destinations, you will need to apply for an Embassy visa first.
Unfortunately, Embassy visa requirements are far more complicated than those applicable to an online visa. Depending on the selected country and the purpose of your visit, the requirements will differ. However, most of the time, you will need a filled form, a valid passport, photographs of the applicant's face, and supporting documents to validate the reason for the planned trip.
Some countries require applicants to provide officially issued documents, which may take a bit longer to be obtained. Do check thoroughly which documents are needed before submitting your application, preferably a few weeks before the planned departure date.
Once you have the required documents prepared, all you have to do is fill the form and submit the complete paperwork at an Embassy of the selected destination. Next, cover the fees and wait up to a few weeks for your application to get approved.
