Thailand to Remove Most Covid Travel Restrictions in July

As of July 1, 2022, travelers arriving in Thailand will only need either a vaccination certificate or a negative Covid-19 test report to enter the country. 

Thai authorities have been monitoring the coronavirus situation and changing their travel restrictions accordingly. In May 2022, the pre-arrival and on-arrival testing for vaccinated arrivals were removed.

Earlier this month, the country's authorities also revised the Thai Pass rules to finally decide to remove it from July 2022. 

Removal of the Thai Pass registration and health insurance 

Effective July 1, the Thai Government will remove almost all of its border measures introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic. It means that the previous requirements for foreign travelers to have $10,000 US travel health insurance will no longer be mandatory. 

Another change in the current Thailand entry requirements concerns the Thailand Pass registration. Until now, it was obligatory for all foreign visitors who were required to upload vaccination and test certificates and insurance proof to obtain a unique QR code.

Since the beginning of July, the registration will be suspended and the code will not be checked anymore. 

Thailand entry requirements from July 2022

Starting from July 2022, international travelers arriving in Thailand can either provide a full-vaccination certificate or a Covid-19 negative test result. The test must be taken within 72 hours before the planned trip. The Thai authorities accept either an RT-PCR test or RAT certified by a health professional. Certificates can be submitted either in digital form or on paper. 

Most airlines may require passengers to show vaccination or test certification to board a flight. Travelers should also expect random checks upon arrival in Thailand. If travelers are unable to provide the required certification, they will need to undergo on-arrival testing. 

Lifting masks and other changes

Due to the significant drop in coronavirus cases in the country, Thailand's Centre of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has classified all 77 Thai provinces as 'green' and reduced the national coronavirus alert to level two.

In April, the country reported a drop from around 30,000 daily cases to about 2,000 despite loosening restrictions and reopening entertainment venues.

From July 1, the requirement to wear masks in outdoor public spaces is also to be removed.

The country has also announced plans to increase the opening hours of bars and pubs, which are currently open until midnight.
