Greek Passenger Locator Form, PLF

Please note! The Passenger Locator Form is no longer required for visiting Greece. The applicable Covid-19 entry requirements changed, eliminating the need to fill out the Passenger Locator Form before departure.

The Greek Passenger Locator Form (PLF) is an online health declaration that needs to be filled out by every visitor to Greece. Anyone visiting Greece must provide basic personal information as well as details of their planned trip.

The new safety measure, in the form of the Passenger Locator Forms, was introduced on the 14th of May 2021, when Greece decided to open its borders to international tourists.

The Greek PLF serves as a safety precaution regarding the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Filled health declarations help the Greek Government in keeping under control possible incoming Covid-19 cases and keep both foreign visitors and Greek citizens safe.

In case of an infection, while getting into Greece, all co-passengers of the infected person will be notified via the provided contact information. This ensures that the disease will not spread any further, and the possible endangered passengers will be taken care of.

When should you fill Greek PLF out?

The time of filling the Greek Passenger Locator Form may be tricky. The Government of Greece specifies that the forms should be submitted no later than the day before entering Greece. That is maximally till 23:59 of the day before arrival.

However, travelers need to take into account a few key things. The most common mistake when filling the Greek PLF is not taking into account the different time zones. The Greek Government expects travelers to adhere to the Greek time zone when filling the forms.

A simple answer to this question would be to fill out the Greek PLF within 72 hours till maximally 24 hours prior to the planned arrival (in Greek time). As long as travelers know the details of the planned trip, such as have a temporary address for the first 24 hours and have their flight details, they can start filling the Greek PLF whenever they want.

Flight details may change up until 24 hours of arrival in Greece. That is why it's best to keep an eye for any changes and update the data provided in the form whenever necessary.

How to fill the Greek PLF?

Filling the Greek PLF is as simple as completing three quick steps of an online application process. First, travelers should make sure that they have all the necessary travel-related information, such as flight details and hotel bookings, on hand.

Next, applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Click on the 'Apply Online' button located on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Fill the Greek PLF form by answering a few simple questions.
  3. Cover the issuing fee using any preferred online payment method.
  4. Wait for the confirmation email to be delivered.

Once the submitted application gets processed by the Greek Government, each traveler receives the filled form send as a PDF file with their unique QR code included.

Information to provide in the form

Providing correct and up-to-date information is the most crucial part of applying for the Greek PLF. Travelers are advised to double-check the provided data to make sure that their form does not contain any errors, misspellings, or misinformation.

Applicants must provide the following information in the Greek PLF:

  • the selected transportation type to be used to get to Greece (land: railway/bus/car/, air, sea: cruise ship/ferry ship)
  • basic personal information (name, age, ID/passport information, home address and temporary address (in Greece), contact details, emergency contact information, details of their travel companions: family and non-family)
  • further details about the selected transportation type to be used (e.g., flight number, airline name, dates of arrival, point of entry)

All the information provided in the form must be correct; thus, travelers should always double-check their data to make sure it's free from any errors.

Current entry requirements for Greece

Greece has adjusted its tourism policy when reopening the borders in May of 2021. There are now several requirements that all travelers must adhere to in order to enter Greece successfully.

Before entering Greece, travelers need to:

  • fill out a Passenger Locator Form
  • prepare the necessary document that proves one's health state

Documents accepted as a proper health state declaration include:

  • a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival in Greece
  • a negative antigen test taken within 48 hours of arrival in Greece
  • certificate of completed vaccination
  • proof of Covid-19 recovery

After arrival in Greece

Once travelers arrive in Greece, the border control officials will check if each passenger has the required documents ready and if all the data provided matches their IDs/passports.

One should prepare the required document that evaluates one's health state, such as a negative Covid-19 test (PCR or antigen), certificate of vaccination, or proof of recovery from Covid-19.

Next, each traveler should get their PLF and QR code ready, either in paper or electronic form. The last document that will be checked by the customs officials is one's valid passport or ID.

Random health screening in Greece

Besides checking the required documents, Greek authorities have implemented one additional safety precaution upon arrival of foreign travelers, and that is random health screening.

Randomly selected travelers will need to undergo an additional antigen Covid-19 test, results of which will be provided within a few hours or even minutes by the Greek authorities. Travelers will receive a text message notification or will have to check their test results on the official Greek Government website.

Should the test come back positive, such travelers will need to undergo a 10-day quarantine period, followed by further testing. The Greek Government is responsible for covering the quarantine costs and assigning appropriate hotels for such purpose.

It's worth noting that even travelers with a vaccination certificate can be selected for testing upon arrival.
